Dr. Amanda BennettI’m interested broadly in ecology and evolution, with a focus on herpetology and conservation. My love of herpetology started during my BSc, where I worked on microsatellite primer design for the Emei moustache frog (Leptobrachium boringii) in the lab of Dr. Jinzhong Fu. For my MSc, I chased turtles along the Trent-Severn Waterway, examining the effects of habitat fragmentation on the demography, spatial ecology, and population genetics of Northern Map Turtles. I moved back to frogs for my PhD, where I studied the constraints limiting plastic responses to predation risk in Wood (Lithobates sylvaticus) and Northern Leopard Frog (Lithobates pipiens) tadpoles. I worked as a turtle conservation intern for the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve after my PhD, collaborating with the START (Saving Turtles At Risk Today) Muskoka project (more turtle chasing, this time around Muskoka and Parry Sound, Ontario). Currently, my postdoctoral research objective is to establish environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring for amphibian occupancy and disease risk models in Canada.
